Fotona LiplaseTM

Fotona Liplase

The current alternative to fillers for fuller, more healthy looking lips – Fotona Needleless LiplaseTM offers a low downtime, no needle option for those looking to enhance the appearance of their lips.

LiplaseTM is a non-surgical and non-invasive technique that utilises laser energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the lip from both inside and outside. It improves the quality of the skin, the mucosa of the lip, the overall shape of the cupid’s bow, and definition of the lip.

How does it work?

Using Fotona’s proprietary Erbium:YAG laser in various modes and techniques, collagen production in deeper and more superficial layers is triggered. This results in plumper and fuller lips over the course of the treatments. The treatment takes 20-30 minutes, and is done under topical anaesthetic numbing.

After each treatment, the following outcomes and downtime is typically expected:
Stage 1: Initial swelling occurs after treatment and lasts for up to 7 days. This provides a seeming instant volumisation to the lip.

Stage 2: Some superficial peeling occurs and continues for up to 72 hours post-treatment. The use of moisturisers can help limit the amount of peeling.

Stage 3: Collagen and elastin production and remodelling occurs over the next few weeks, improving the appearance of the lip with each passing week.

The session is then repeated for several sessions to optimise outcomes.

The Fotona LiplaseTM Difference

While fillers are necessary for those looking for a more direct filling and structuring of the lip, the Fotona LiplaseTM offers the alternative of avoiding the placement of foreign substances within the lip, while producing a naturally enhanced and healthier lip.

Over time, Fotona LiplaseTM offers the following benefits:

  • Natural outcomes
  • Increased collagen and elastin production
  • Plumper lips with less wrinkles
  • Some lightening of the lip colour
  • Long lasting results
  • The lack of needles, meaning minimal downtime and pain
  • Increased definition of the lip borders

FAQs

1. How do I choose between Fotona LiplaseTM and Lip Fillers?

Both serve relatively similar, and yet rather different purposes.

The use of fillers is a subtle art, that can be used to give mild definition, bolder shapes, and volumise areas of the lips to achieve harmonious results.

The Fotona LiplaseTM treatment, however, provides an intrinsic remodelling solution to plumping the lips. With intrinsic processes, however, there are limitations to the extent of improvement that can ultimately be achieved.

For patients who do not like the idea of needles and foreign substances, and who do not need larger amounts of volume to get the intended results, the Fotona LiplaseTM offers that ideal in-between.

For those who have more severe volume loss and wrinkling but are alright with achieving the natural outcomes achievable by the LiplaseTM treatment, it might also serve as a good compromise.

For those who wish for best outcomes, the combination of LiplaseTM, followed by the use of carefully placed fillers can offer unparalleled outcome in lip rejuvenation.

2. How many sessions do I need?

As with any procedures relying on the production and remodelling of collagen and elastin, several sessions are typically required. While results can be seen after a single session, 2-3 sessions are advised every fortnightly, followed by another 2-3 sessions performed monthly.

The final results can last for up to a year.

3. Are there any expected side effects from treatment?

The Fotona LiplaseTM treatment is safe, with minimal side effects expected. After some topical numbing to the lips for 30 minutes, pain is minimal during treatment. Some peeling is expected over several days after treatment. Patients who have had cold sores at the mouth area should be aware that recurrence of cold sores can occur after this laser.

4. What is the downtime from treatment?

Immediately after the laser, there is some mild swelling of the lip, but patients are able to return to daily activities immediately after the procedure. Most of the immediate swelling settles over the coming hours, with mild residual swelling going down over the following week. Some superficial peeling is expected from the second to third day, and sun avoidance and sun protection with SPF 30-50 lip balm is advised for the week after the laser. No lipstick should be applied for the first hours after treatment.
