How many sessions will I Need?
Hair follicles are in different stages of growth, and these stages can be divided into :
1. Anagen
The growing phase of hair
2.Catagen
A transition phase where hair is detatched from the dermal papilla
3. Telogen
Resting phase of hair follicles with no active growth. 10 -15% of hair is in this phase that lasts about 3 months
4. Exogen
The shedding phase where hair drops from the follicle
Laser and IPL hair removal is only able to target hair in the Anagen phase (most hair is in this phase) as an active follicle with attached hair is required to transmit the heat generated by the laser to destroy the hair bulb at its root.
As such, a session of hair removal is required every 4 to 6 weeks for 4-6 sessions for effective clearance of hair. Each session reduces hair growth, density of hair, and thickness of each hair in the treatment area.
The extent of results will depend on the area being treated, with some hair growing back sooner in certain areas than others. In general, results are expected to last for several years before a touch up session might be required, and even if hair does grow back, they are finer, more sparse and less visible than before treatment.
